Detroit, M10, W2, D3, semi-private
It didn't take Control very long to decide that the meta known as the Crimson Cavalier needed to be removed from the equation. The affect he'd had on not just Stella but on their little darling, their Carolyn, their best success (to date) is not to be tolerated.
He confused her. She belongs to Control. Not to them.
So of course, they test her, by sending her to remove the threat.
Carolyn has been studying the Cavalier's patterns herself for a week or so now, and she has all the data gathered by Control. Currently, she is set up on top of one a building, poised to take the shooting solution she knows will present itself in short order. The ammo has been tailored to deal with the unique problem her target presents, but truthfully, she doesn't expect the shot to hit.
Taking Rodney Pryor down will have to be done much more up close and personal. The shot is just to get his attention.

It's safe to say that the leader of the Autobots knows enough about security not to be particularly predictable (and it's further safe to assume that this Autobot leader, one sometimes known for his recklessness, tends to be a bit less predictable than the 'standard model'). Unfortunately, while the Crimson Cavalier may work to vary his routine, the city itself can be frustratingly predictable. There are areas where he can reliably be found most nights, not because of any time tables or schedules, but because those are the areas that he's noticed are most likely to need him.
This is one such area, and he flied low among buildings, light dimmed as much as he can force it, eyes narrowed as he looks for trouble. As he flies, he wonders if the dimmed light is perhaps the wrong way to go about it... maybe what these people need is a reminder that they're being watched. A signal of some sort...

Carolyn will not interfere with Rodney's work. She is hard of heart, yes, but she'll not deliberately consign a civilian to death unless needs must. The Crimson Cavalier does much good in this city, and a part of her recognizes that the city will feel his loss. The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many in this case.
In other words, orders are orders and she will follow them.
Her finger tightens on the trigger, and she fires.

The shot misses, by luck and just barely. Perhaps it's because the glow, even dimmed, makes him somewhat harder to target. Perhaps it's the motion. Perhaps Carolyn herself, unknowingly or unintentionally, somehow spoiled her own shot. Either way, the bullet zooms just in front of the Cavalier, alerting him to the shooter... and letting him know that whatever she's firing, it seems able to get through his protection.
He twists mid-air, and brightens himself as much as he can, a brilliant, bordering on eye-hurting light which should, hopefully, make it harder to look at him, and harder to pinpoint the man in the middle of all that brightness. Then he flies in the direction where the shot came from, almost straight, but with occasional small moves from side to side, to ensure that whoever's firing can't just "aim for the middle."

Carolyn is changing position even as her shot narrowly misses Rodney. Keeping her eyes averted from the center of that brilliant glow, she flips off the edge of the building and drops onto a window ledge below. The movement, as well as herself, should be easily visible to Rodney
She stows her rifle and leans against the wall, arms crossed over her chest. The rifle in that position is impractical, but she's plenty of other weapons easily at hand. She reaches up and taps just behind her earlobe, silencing the chatter in her head. Control will punish her for the dead air later, but she doesn't care.
Carolyn can kill the pretty firebird at her leisure. Unbidden, she finds she has questions. She will have her answers before she has his life.
"Are you always so flashy?" she asks, once the Cavalier is close enough to hear, "You make of yourself too easy a target."

Cavalier doesn't follow Carolyn into the building. He's cocky, he's reckless, but there are limits to his foolishness. Instead, he hovers just outside the window, just close enough to hear his words.
"And yet I'm still alive," he says confidently, and then, serious, adds, "but you don't want to kill me."
