Additions may be made to canon history in order to flesh out the world of Cybertron, help explain things seen in the series, or smooth out contradictions. Major additions (that is, things that are liable to have had a significant affect on Cybertron society in a particular canon) need to be run by the staff first.
A good rule of thumb is: if it affects the whole or a large part of Transformer society, or requires TF society to behave in a certain way, run it by us. If you're unsure, run it by us.
Actual changes to canon are usually only done to eliminate an internal canon conflict, and generally initiated by staff, but they may be suggested by players.
In conjunction with this, we are announcing a change to one of the established canons to attempt to get it to make a bit more sense. There is some modification being done to the G1 cartoon timeline (although the actual canon events remain the same. Some simply happened at different times. The rundown is as follows:
Four Million Years Ago: The Ark leaves for Earth (unchanged from standard)
Nine Million Years Ago: Start of the Third Cybertronian War; Orion Pax becomes Optimus Prime; Fall of Crystal City (unchanged from Standard)
Sixteen Million Years Ago: End of the Second Cybertronian War, start of the Golden Age.
We're not going to work back all the way to Cybertronian creation, but it can be assumed that the Second Cybertronian War ran for 3-5 million years, and that the planet had at least a few million years of peace before that. This is done mostly to allow enough time in the Golden Age for the majority of the planet to have forgotten about the Decepticons (as Fire In The Sky and War Dawn imply they have) in a species that commonly lives for several million years in a stretch. It also lets the Second Great Cybertronian War be long enough to actually be a Great Cybertronian War when compared with the third one.
It does have the side effect of making Alpha Trion into one really old bastrich.
