Needlenose fires his light-burst discharger in the middle of a dark night. Two people had sufficient warning that they could reasonably do anything about it: Duskwing and Oracle.
Of everyone else, however, the only characters posed as getting hit with the bulk of a temporary effect blindness were admin-run characters.
No one in the "Fiddling While Alien City Burns" thread had any warning of the impending attack. One of the characters there missing it would have been acceptable. Everyone missing it, except for the admin-controlled character, smacks of serious coddling and shenanigans.
"Loot, Pillage, and THEN Burn" got a very small amount of warning; it should not have been sufficient for everyone there to successfully shield their optics in time.
Props to Skyfire and Perceptor still being dazzled despite shielding.
There are no meta-reasons why the only people not directly involved in Needlenose's fight who got seriously affected should be admin-run characters. Especially since being temporarily blinded is not majorly dangerous to people standing around talking or burning down the city.
There has been a tendency lately for some people to shield their characters from taking damages. Please recall that you are playing giant robots - damages are easily fixed.

Heh. Not real sure I'm guilty of shielding, though I will cop to not inflicting temporary blindness of Gangster-beat. (Granted, he wasn't watching the sky at the time...)
So let's chalk this one up mostly to ignorance of what else was going on around me and a less than good knowlege of how Needlenose's stuff works.
My apologies, I suppose, boss.

It's not yet a serious issue, but it is a trend that I want to nip in the bud before it does become a serious issue.

Bluestreak-3 post edited to reflect damages taken. Will take this into account for my upcoming TC-3 post as well. I'm sorry.
