2007 Movie characters who scan an alternate mode belonging to a particular planet can use processed fuels native to that planet without facing the problem with degradation that comes from 'dirty charging.' Please note that this only applies while that Transformer has the appropriate alternate mode. For example, a movie character can scan a local alternate mode and use the recharge stations without ill-effect. However, if they revert to their previous alternate mode, they lose the ability and go back to relying on energon or whatever fuels fit are appropriate for their previous alternate mode.
As a note, while you can scan a Gillanese vehicle, fuel up, and immediately revert to an Earth vehicle, scanning and changing alternate modes has been established as being very draining in and of itself. The process of reverting is liable to use up so much energy that it isn't actually worth it.
"All right. All I need to do is scan this local mode... whelp, there goes the remains of my energy. Time to fuel up so I can get moving again. There we go, much better! Now, time to revert! Oh, darn it. Right back where I started."
Whether or not a similar rule will be applied to other series will be handled on a case by case basis. It is established that G1 Marvel characters cannot use non-Cybertronian fuels without being specially adapted, even if they have appropriate alternate modes (which also means that it's possible for a 2007 character to scan a G1 Marvel's character Terran vehicle mode and still not be able to use Terran fuels). However, appropriate adaptations were developed pretty early in the G1 Marvel series, and any character who has been to Earth after these early issues will most likely already be adapted (except, possibly, Goldbug).
All Transformers can still use Energon without ill-effect.
