Just a silly idea I thought we could indulge in. For those who don't know what a Renga is, it's a type of multi-author linked poetry from medieval Japan. The wiki article on it is here. Traditional renga has many strict rules, but for this I thought we'd streamline it down to the most basic ones. Rules1. Stanzas have either a pattern of 575 syllables or 77 syllables. These two alternate, and the poem starts on a 575 stanza. 2. Stanzas must be linked thematically to the stanza directly before and after them. This does not mean the entire poem has to be about one particular subject, but there must be a logical and obvious flow from one to another. 3. The author of a stanza must not be the same as the stanza directly before it. Renga are historically an extension of the waka poem, which was used in correspondence in even earlier times in Japan. Rengas themselves were often official and unofficial competitions to see who could come up with the best stanza. So please, keep to the spirit of this, and do give something for the person after you to work with. Since this is my idea, I'll start off with the first stanza.
