Pyrope looks Perceptor over sceptically. Strangers don't just offer help, not here on Pz-Zazz. He has better not be thinking about asking her to... well. She replies guardedly, "There's the police report."
Pyrope moves to one lab station, which is dusty and obviously hasn't been touched in months, except by someone who wrote, in the dust, 'Garnet, get back here. We're out of Zydrate'. The equipment at this station isn't any more advanced, but it is a lot more intricate, with a great deal of hand-blown glassware in odd shapes, obviously custom made for various specific purposes.

Ah, but Perceptor is not from Pz-Zazz, nor has he been here long enough to allow the cynical, dark world to affect his general demeanor.
"Was it completed by those officers which you spoke of? The ones sympathetic to Garnet? Or by... officers with less incentive to discover the truth?" He tries hard to keep the irritation and scorn out of his voice for those last few words. He really does.
// I hesitate to bring any of our own instruments here. I fear that bthey would be lost or stolen, and we do not have sufficient resources to have them replaced, // he replies privately to Glyph. // I am afraid that we will have to... make do. At least I am capable of performing most of the most necessary functions here on my own, // he sighs.
He studies the glassware, guessing some of the functions it had been created for. "Your Garnet is quite the resourceful individual," he observes.
// Given the level of improvisation in these apparatus, I can already guess that requesting funds to purchase equipment for this laboratory is... less than likely, // he adds to Glyph.
"And quite dedicated, given the... ah... apparent support provided in this office." How anyone could continue to abuse science like this whole facility does... It makes Perceptor's processor ache.

Glyph moves around to where she can better see Garnet's equipment, and looks a touch impressed. "Looks like he knew a bit on improvisation..." she says.
//Mm. Looks like we'll have to learn to improvise as well...//

"...no," Pyrope admits. "They had other cases to work. It happens, you know."
She rather neatly wraps Garnet's personal glassware and tools in bubblewrap, packing it away in boxes, and she adds, a bit defensively, "This was his. Came out of his pay. The stuff provided here didn't really suit his needs, and he wanted to do the job right, even if no one else did. Some of it, he made, some if it, my brothers or I made, and some, there's this glassblower on Gay Street. I can get you his address, if you're interested. Oh, and the pound he worked with."
Pyrope keeps looking over at Perceptor and Glyph thoughtfully, trying to figure out what's going on with them. She's also fishing, now. Is Perceptor actually going to do this job, or is he like the rest of them?

"Of course, dear lady, of course," Perceptor replies soothingly. "It rightfully belongs to you and I will not allow anyone to prevent you from reclaiming his materials. Besides, you must keep his items safe for future use. He will require it when he returns to duty." Why, yes, yes Perceptor has just accepted a new cause. He's going to find Garnet - or his remains - one way or another if it kills him. "And I understand. I hypothesize that the officers and detectives of the entire department are very much spread too thin. I will locate what information I may and we will expand upon the investigation."
Perceptor pauses and glances around the sad, sad little "lab". "Yes, I can see," he replies, a look of pained distaste upon his features. "I am not certain that what they provide here would suit the needs of an elementray school child. Fortunately, I possess a great many of the necessary instruments and sensors within my own systems." He heaves a sigh and shakes his head. "But I would appreciate the contact information for the glass blower."
"I assume that Garnet utilized the pound to obtain specimens for study?" Frontier CSI. How... quaint. Sadly, Perceptor suspects that he will be forced to utilize many of the same meothods, if only to truly establish his credentials here. "Are you aware if he had any contacts with a local entymologist? I will also require specimens of local insect life for study and life cycle placement."

While Perceptor talks shop with Pyrope, Glyph is now going about the room, and at least attempting to tidy what bits she can - namely moving all the broken bits of furniture into one spot, and setting chairs back up.
...however, there will need to be much more done. Including getting a few cleaning supplies from either somewhere local, or the Event Horizon. Only a little dusty, but for the purposes of the room, that's not acceptable...

Perceptor being in the same lala land about Garnet's disappearance as Pyrope isn't really going to help her move on.
With neat handwriting, Pyrope writes out information for the glass blower, the pound, and an entomologist, something almost like a smile quirking at her features. She didn't even have to prompt him about the entomologist! Very good. Pyrope does reply brusquely, with a bit of wounded pride, "Here's the other two and that entomologist. Now, maybe things are different where you come from, but we get by here, and don't you think otherwise. Just, sometimes the judge won't believe you can detect chloroform traces weeks after death, and you'll have to demonstrate, or someone will challenge you on how much carbon dioxide it takes to kill an aerobe."
Pyrope looks over at Glyph and frowns again. Quiet little thing, doing menial work...

"My apologies, ma'am," Perceptor replies as he accepts the notes she's made for him. "I did not mean to offend. I merely meant that this office deserves more respect that it clearly receives."
Perceptor sighs and glances around, noting Glyph beginning the whole cleaning process. "Contact Mayday, Glyph," he suggests after a moment. "He should hopefully be able to provide some material assistance." If anyone on the Event Horizon has suitable cleansers on hand, it will definitely be Mayday.
"I appreciate your assistance," he adds, turning back to Pyrope. "And if you could provide some means to contact you, I will keep you appraised as to my progress with his case."

Glyph's general function is doing menial work! Though she does do some interesting stuff too - but this is not the right environment for her to do translations and culture research, so for now, she is content to help Perceptor.
At Perceptor's suggestion, she nods. "Once we get a bit more settled in and some of this junk is cleared out," she answers, piling up more broken furniture.

"Respect, bah," Pyrope grouches. "It gets more than enough respect - or is that fear? Same thing, here. What it could use is some work ethic."
She looks at Perceptor guardedly, but she's in the phone book - maybe a dumb move, that, but with her brothers around, she's never really feared for herself, though given her husband, maybe she should have. Sighing and muttering an oath under her exhaust, she write down her name and number on another scrap of paper, adding sarcastically, "Yeah, good luck with that."
Finally, Pyrope can't stand it anymore, and she turns and asks Glyph, "What are you, Perceptor's maidservant?" She puts one hand on her hip, and it seems she vaguely disapproves.

"As you wish, Glyph," Perceptor replies, nodding.
Perceptor accepts the paper with a small frown. "If you do not wish me to look into the case... I will respect your wishes," he offers with his own guarded expression. He knows that she's just frustrated, but the sarcasm hurts just a little. It feels as if she is calling his own ethic and throughness into question now, without even giving him an opportunity to prove himself.
And then she turns her irritation on Glyph - or rather, obliquely upon Perceptor again, and it takes an exercise of will not to snap out an answer. For one thing, Glyph hardly needs his assistance in replying, and for another, it would only reinforce Pyrope's accusation if Perceptor attempted to answer for Glyph.
It's still... frustrating.

Glyph looks up as Pyrope, optics blinking in a moment of confusion.
"No, I am not a maidservant - I am a fellow scientist. However, given that my focus lies in data processing and language, in this situation I am better suited to aiding Perceptor as an assistant with whatever needs to be done that would distract Perceptor from his current goal." Her tone is even, but gentle - Glyph isn't fond of confrontation, even if it's just a light social one. "If that includes cleaning the lab, then so be it."

Oh, of course! The man does all the hard, manly sciences like chemistry, and the little woman does the soft sciences like language. Hmmph.
Pyrope just urges, "Worry about your job first, would be my advice, and if turns out that my husband does fall under your job," if he's dead, "I'll..." She crosses her arms across her chest and looks away, sorrowful. She finishes, choked, "...I'll figure something out."
Most of the things are boxed now, just a few delicate items left to wrap up, and she comments absently, "Y'know, a lot of banks and laywers need help with languages. A lot have clients that don't speak the same languages as everyone else. Pay pretty well."
Hint hint, go get a real job, Glyph.

Perceptor has no control over what his associates studies, only what he studies, which is pretty much everything.
"As you wish," he replies, deciding to let her adversarial irritation pass without further comment. She is in a rather painful situation, after all. He's still going to look into Garnet's case, though. It isn't as if he really sleeps much anyway.
Hmmm, an excellent suggestion, and probably much more along the lines of Glyphs expertise than working in a morgue will be. Although, Perceptor isn't certain how many of such facilities might have a need for ancient language expertise.

Glyph turns back to her self-appointed cleaning duties, though she glances back at the suggestion. "A reasonable line of thought, yes. My general experience is with dead languages, but live ones would be more accessible. Though... Learning the legal system and its history could be quite useful."
Glyph is now distracted by pondering!
