Month 1, Week 2, Day 1, Semi-private. Jazz should be here. Probably, um, some command folks? Not sure. Poke us if you think you should be.
Elita-1 isn't quite sure how she got picked to be co-council for the prosecution for this trial. She's just a cadet, for AllSpark's sake, and a she never studied law. Well. Not like that. She knows a good deal about her Cybertron's laws, because they directly correlate to its history.
Only, when she was asked about her feelings on the matter, she didn't care that it was basically a sham trial to justify a death. Hook is a Decepticon, and Decepticons are evil. Hook, according to the folks from his reality, has done some terrible things to perfectly innocent people. Really, the only thing she questions is why they're bothering with something so public as a trial.
She feels kinda bad for Long Haul, though. Maybe that's why?
"So, who do we have lined up as witnesses again?" she asks Jazz.

Jazz never explicitly studied law, but having been Optimus Prime's right-hand man for a while, he has a grasp of how the laws go.
As those laws go, he's here to try and prove Hook guity of war crimes. However, Jazz must question the logic of two relative newcomers to this universe being pegged as prosecutors. He guesses it works at keeping them from being biased in theory. However, Jazz knows this Hook, and the various things he's done back home, so he's not so unbiased toward Hook himself...
Well. He can ponder logic later. Or not at all - that's Prowl's thing. Right now, he needs to focus.
"Well, I'm not sure. I haven't been here long enough to get a good gauge of what all Hook's done. I'd wager that Long Haul would be at the top of the list, though. Maybe Perceptor..." Jazz frowns, poking at his datapad. "If only we knew for certain what his pull point was, then I might be able to peg more 'bots from mine and Hook's universe for witnesses to things he did there..."
Rebuilding Optimus Prime into an alligator counts as a war crime, right?

"I'm... not sure getting Long Haul on the stand would be a good idea," Elita offers hesitantly, "He and Hook are like, family or some such, right? It would be awfully hard on him."
"If anything, he'd be a more likely witness for the defense. Long Haul could attest to the fact that Hook now is not how Hook was. Since pretty much everyone knows that his group was forcibly reprogrammed, that would lend credence to a plea of not guilty by reason of mental impairment."
"Omega though..." Elita's voice trails off. If the trial would be hard on Long Haul, it would be even harder on Omega. Still, "He's a walking testament to one of the Constructicons most heinous crimes."

Jazz leans back in his chair, resting one elbow on the backrest. "I know... Just kinna brainstormin', y'know. We should probably check with Kup for what we know he's done for certain."
"Omega would be useful, yeah. He'd also be dangerous, though. 'Bad blood' doesn't even start to describe the mess between him and the Constructicons... The thing is, though, we need to prove Hook's pull point. For all we know, he could've come from right after they did the bad juju to his head", Jazz says, pointing a wiggly finger at his head. "If we -could- prove how old he is, that'll give us a bead on his pull point, then we got more stuff to work with."
Jazz leans on the table, resting his elbows on it with hands folded, chin on his hands. "How to prove his age..." Jazz frowns, thinking. "Not as easy as just checking a chronometer or asking him. Not like we could carbon-date him..." Jazz raises up a bit, then snaps his fingers. "Hook's from my reality, so he has a laser core rather than a spark! If we can figure out how old that thing is, we got something better to go on, 'cause if anything's original in his body, that'd be it."

"Oh that's right. He's from the weird reality," Elita muses, totally oblivious to the possible insult she just paid Jazz, "Good idea, if they'll let us do it."
She shuffles through some paperwork, frowning as she looks for something.
"I can't seem to find a list of anything Hook has personally done since arriving in this universe. That could be a sticking point. Personally, I don't think that matters any more than a backfire in a wind storm, but some people might. Depending on who is on the jury, we could have trouble."
"We'll need to not only prove his guilt in regards to the charges, but prove why we're justified in trying him at all."

Jazz smirks as Elita-1 calls his universe weird. "I could say the same of all you guys with sparks, but I figure enough folks have done that already."
"I'll see if I can't wrangle a rap sheet out of Kup. He and Botanica just gave us the clear to test Hook's laser core under the guise of a medical exam. We just need to wrangle Glyph and a medical 'bot..."
Jazz nods at the last bit. "Yeah, that'll be tricky. Once we've got the list from Kup and know how old he is, we can go from there", he says, lacing his fingers together for a moment, then standing up.
"Let's go fetch us a warrant and a couple of smart 'bots!"

OOC: In the interest of speeding things along, it was suggested that the actual acquiring of the info from Kup and the testing of Hook be done off-screen. (Checked with Hook and Bambi's player and they were cool with that, as was Kup's. I'm cool with it, as I've got Jazz and Glyph.) So if it's alright with you, we can timeskip a few hours ahead into having the information? I'm compiling a list with the assistance of Hook and Kup muns for what we'd get out of this.

OOC: Timeskip ahoy
This would be the point in the show were the screen goes black and white letters read Day 2, Event Horizon, Briefing Room 2121. The lack of wardrobe change- if there is such a lack- is completely handwaved in favor of the story at hand.
Elita-1 shuffles through some more papers. She, at least, did have a wardrobe change. Sort of. Her gloves are gray instead of black.
"Okay so- We've got a date, but it means diodes to me. Where does this place him in relation to events in your reality?"

Jazz does have a slight wardrobe change. He has the white fedora he had while serving at Club Con, but not the suit.
The saboteur frowns. Rodimus pulled him aside in the past day* - they know Hook's pull point for sure, but Rodimus couldn't tell him how they know. And it can't be used as evidence because of that... However, it does confirm the results they got from Glyph's work. Jazz doesn't mention it, but it does give him some confidence about what they're working on.
"It roughly puts him at 1985, which means we know for certain that he did commit the Crystal City atrocity, as well as attempting to reprogram Omega Supreme without consent."
Jazz pauses, rubbing his chin. "The rest is shaky at best... Two attempts to commit genocide and destroy the earth - first with a solar needle, and the second with a huge drill. There's also several incidents of mistreatment of prisoners - Hoist and Grapple got built into a wall in the solar needle, disassembling Optimus Prime then rebuilding him into a robotic alligator and..." Jazz frowns. "Once when they captured me, Ironhide, Trailbreaker, Sunstreaker, and Mirage with a mode-locker, they were going to execute us in a ginormous car-crusher."
Jazz lays his datapad down, propping his head on one elbow. "Those were fairly early in 1985, but it's possible that he came from before them, unless..." Jazz pulls up the incident with the drill. "The defense might try to swing something in his favor with this incident where we took control of the Constructicons with Dominator Discs." A sigh leaves him. "That didn't go too well - Megatron countered them, and when Wheeljack tried to get them working again, he made Devastator go berserk."
Jazz smirks a bit. "If they try to nail us on that, it might be tricky to counter, but we'll at least know we can go after the mode-lock and drill incidents for certain."

Elita-1 nods as Jazz lists off the possible charges. When he mentions the Dominator Disks though, she frowns. Leaning back so that her chair is balancing on two legs, she questions, "So... you guys tried to forcibly reprogram people who had already been forcibly reprogrammed once before. Hmpf. Sounds like something my Autobots would do. I thought yours was the goody goody reality."
"At any rate," she continues as she taps her pen on chin, "I think the best way to go about this is to focus on the situation with Crystal City and Omega. As I understand it, Hook acknowledges that he is aware that he was reprogrammed to be a Decepticon. That could be extrapolated to show that a part of him knows that his actions are contrary to the majority, yet he seems to show no remorse or desire to change course. It could speak to baseline personality and morals."
The chair legs hit the floor, "So- are we asking for the death penalty on this?"

Jazz holds up a hand. "It wasn't permanent reprogrammin', it was more of a temporary control. Which in reality, ain't much better." He frowns, lowering the hand, and propping his chin up again. "We had the Earth's best interests in mind - if we didn't do something about Devastator, the 'Cons would've busted Earth up like a watermelon at a Gallagher show. I didn't like it, but I didn't want Earth to go kablooie - it's a really cool place, and was kind of a second home."
Jazz nods at Elita's suggestion regarding their focus. "Yeah, that may be something to work with, but... We're wanting to try and undo the reprogramming. See if we can get 'im back to normal, like Long Haul."

"There's always another choice besides forcibly controlling others." Elita mutters, mostly to herself.
"We can still argue for the death penalty," she says louder, "The Hook that is imprisoned could be argued as the villain, while the Hook that was suppressed by the Robo-smasher, the Hook that is Long Haul's relation is completely innocent. Which is another thing."
Elita leans back in her chair, using one leg to push back against the table's edge. As she perches on two legs she says, "We can actually argue that the Decepticon Hook is responsible for the forced imprisonment, nay death, of the True Hook. 'Killing' the Decepticon Hook through undoing the reprogramming would be valid justice for all parties, I'm thinking."
"And that would be a death. The Hook Long Haul knows hasn't existed in... how long? Millions of years? It would be like killing the corrupt jailer to set your friend free."
She nods her head, "Yes, I think that's the tact to take. What do you think?"

Jazz tents his fingers a bit as he ponders what Elita says. "Rather interestin' way to look at things, but I agree in reckonin' that this is the right track. Then we get rid of one of the Decepticons' top engineers, bolster our own science team, and reunite Long Haul with one of his brothers."
Jazz pauses.
"Provided we win."

"We'll win," Elita says with confidence as she looks through some more notes.
"You're the charismatic one. You do the opening arguments, initial questioning. I'm really good at persuasion and leading. I'll do the closing any cross-examination."
She looks up, "Sound good?"
OOC: Think we're getting toward a wrap here, yes, no?

A smirk crosses the carformer's face as he pushes his fedora back a bit. "Oh yeah, sounds real good."
He still can't help but feel uneasy about this, but duty's duty, and if it'll get Hook back to normal...
