Long Haul has no intention of using sweet questions to get under Drift's plating. But he intends to use more traditional tools.
In fact, pretty much as soon as Drift is in place, he reaches for the shoulder housing. Unless prevented, he'll open it up for direct access so that he can clear out the old lubricant before adding new stuff. "Shouldn't take too long," he observes. Then he considers the conversation between Kup and Drift. "Well, unless you decide to treat it like a battle, same's as you seem to be treatin' everything else. That tends to make things take longer."

OOC: Guh, I am sorry for missing this! Please, poke me on AIM if I am slow or something.
Kup gives Drift another appraising look - is Drift tired of those yet? Well, Kup knew he needed to keep an optic on Drift anyway. What's another reason? A 'bot who can't make friends is... dangerous, and not in the good way. Not relating to the people you're trying to protect is a fast track way to thinking they're expendable.
At least Long Haul seems to know how to handle grumpy grumps, as Kup hoped he would. Drift is indeed behaving. All Kup says is a grumpy, "Hnn."

[ooc: WAAAAAH?!? BOOKMARKS HAVE FAILED ME AGAIN! *stabbity stab*]

Drift eats your appraising looks like cyber m&ms, Kup. But he's trying. In his own special way. He showed remorse about Perceptor and everything!
He glares at Long Haul. Just a warning not to get too gropey. Because he'll rip your hand off and feed it to you. "Everything is a battle, Autobot." Least where he's from.
He does squirm, though, as Long Haul gets to work. It's not his fault, really. Cons just aren't really touchy-feely. And it kind of...tickles.

"Right. I'll make sure to clear out my afternoon schedule, then," Long Haul grunts. He is neither more nor less gropey than he needs to be in order to get his job done, but unlike Perceptor, he's perfectly willing to let Drift go wandering around with a squeaky shoulder if it comes to that.
He begins the cleaning, removing the old, gunky lubricant from the joint carefully, though not particularly gently. Should it become necessary, however, he will attempt to hold Drift's shoulder in place to prevent an ill-timed squirm. Long Haul is abnormally strong, but the question is whether he'd get the chance to do that to begin with.

OOC: This is why you don't get Starscream to handle your bookmarks, Galvatron. Also, Kup is skippable now, because he's really just standing around and looking grumpy while Long Haul cleans out Drift's shoulder. Might jump back in with comments later.
Drift is really making things painfully obvious, the way that he calls Long Haul 'Autobot'. Good thing Long Haul's not the most observant energon cube in the six-pack. So Kup continues to stand around, observe, and look grumpy. This is exactly how he wanted to spend his day.

Well, Kup, if it's any consolation, Drift's definitely not having a Day of Awesome himself. Starting with Pervceptor. Moving onto Midget Haul here who is, ow, not particularly gentle.
Which is good, because in Decepticon repairs, pain means competence. And that means Long Haul is competent. In a way.
Which means...maybe he should mention this. Since Kup is giving him the Hairy Optic, doubtless testing to see if he'll remember. "SO. Uh. I...have this problem with my sword."

Long Haul is competent! He doesn't go out of his way to hurt those he's helping, he's just not one to bother about being gentle. Though he will generally shut off tactile sensor feeds and take other measures to reduce pain if requested, since it hasn't been requested yet, he hasn't thought about it.
"Hnh?" he asks, tilting his head. He brings up his right hand to scratch the back of his head in mild confusion. "Well, if it's broke, I can repair it, sure." Then he finishes cleaning out the old lubricant.

Shutting off tactile feed is for pansies and Autoboooo---oh. Ummm. Right. Still. The point remains: Drift is too hardcore for that. He'll just wince and give you pointed looks.
Drift spares a highly pointy pointed look over at Kup. This was Kup's fraggin' idea, after all. "Sword isn't broken. Least...it works the same way they told me it would. Just...tends to, uh, apparently be kind of lethal."
Wait. You know what? It's this lying down thing. It makes Drift stupid or something. No more lying down. OR being touched by females. Or...he really needs to make a list of these rules if he's ever going to fit in here.
"I mean, lethal to me. The, uh the mech holding it."

Long Haul now beings to add fresh lubricant to the joints. Here, in addition to using his fingers, he makes use of what basically amounts to a robo-Q-tip to get the semi-liquid in place. As Drift explains the situation, he nods.
"Yeah, I can see as that would be a problem. Usually it's the guy on the other end it's s'posed to be lethal for."
He pauses a moment, then asks, "Are you sure you're holding it the right way?"
It's a pretty baseline stupid question, but given the description that Drift gave, Long Haul is obligated to ask in the same way that a service desk technician pretty much has to ask, 'Are you sure it's plugged in?' Sometimes people get these things wrong.

Okay, it can go back to hurting now, because that, right there? Tickles. So have a squirmy version of Drift. And there's Kup. Just glowering. Seriously? Hello! Molestation going on right here!
Autobots suck.
Drift goes rigid for a klik at Long Haul's question. Seriously? Sword's pretty much a Point and Stab Interface. Kind of hard to frag it up.
He moves, suddenly, kicking one leg out to shove Long Haul away from the berth before rolling to a crouch, Great Sword in his hand, pointing at the smaller mech. "Want a demonstration?"

Long Haul once more attempts to hold Drift's shoulder still in order for him to finish his job, but that's interrupted as he's suddenly kicked away from the berth. His optic band brightens a moment and he takes a step back. Long Haul is not a coward, and he's seen his fair share of bar brawls, but he is still, basically, a civilian. He's still not used to having actual weapons of war pointed at him. Broken furniture and improvised clubs? Smaller knives, even? Sure. Swords? Still a pretty new experience.
He holds up his hands, but the 'calm down' gesture is perhaps somewhat countered by the obvious anger in his tone. "Listen, pal. First, you don't want me to ask the obvious questions, you better give me a clearer fault description from the get-go, got it? I don't know you from Alpha Trion, so I got know way of knowing what you do or don't know 'bout your weapons, so's I gotta ask questions. Second, until you disarm, I ain't finishing the job and you can just walk around with a damned squeaky shoulder. You don't want to be in top op condition? That's your business. Joints will start rubbing, eventually get painful or seize up, but ain't nothing wrong with you that's life threatening, so I ain't putting up with my life getting threatened trying to fix it."
Yes, Long Haul is used to dealing with the likes of Bonecrusher when it comes to repairs. But sometimes 'dealing with Bonecrusher' means 'taking away his ability to do damage while Long Haul is trying to fix him.'

"Drift, put the consarned hogsticker away," Kup orders flatly.
For a moment, Kup pities whoever Drift's past commander was. Then Kup remembers it was probably a Decepticon, and those jerks deserve all the irritable, cranky troops. Kup, however, has no pity for Drift, who is just acting like a big baby who doesn't want to get his shots. Even Wheelie was better about medical exams than this, Kup thinks!
His memory might be a bit fuzzy. Was Wheelie a biter when they first brought him back? Or did Wheelie get that from hanging out with Grimlock? Or is Kup confusing Wheelie with Steeljaw? Nevermind.
He then adds, "And explain the dadburn weakness like a sensible Autobot." Kup turns to Long Haul, grimaces, and hazards, "The sword sucks on his soul or something."

Drift snarls, but sheaths the Great Sword. Congratulations, Kup, you are the only mech Drift will obey implicitly. Don't you feel special?
Implicit obedience doesn't mean silence, though. "Know how to hold a fraggin' sword, Kup." Come on. It's a little insulting. Grant him that much?
He glares at Long Haul, dropping heavily back onto the berth. Who knew that Drift responds to surliness? And Long Haul made sense. He would be useless if he seized up in combat. Sure, Perceptor had hinted much the same, but, well, Drift needs a hammer sometimes, to get a message home.
"Yeah. Sure. Okay." His lip curls as if he's in pain: "Sorry."

"Nuh-uh," Long Haul shakes his head, crossing his arms stubbornly, as Drift climbs back on the table. "I said disarmed, not sheathed. You only get one chance to pull a weapon on me while I'm in the middle of trying to fix you. After that, it goes out of reach." He points to a nearby work bench. "You can set it over there."
He looks at Kup, lowering his arms to his side. "Well, I don't know much about souls," which makes sense, given that Autobots from his reality and time period weren't yet sure they had them. "I can take a look at it and see what sort of energy draw it does, but I ain't no metap- me- I ain't all soully. Sounds like there's a good chance this is beyond me."

Kup gives Drift a Look. In fact, Kup's Look is now on permanent loan to Drift. It's okay. Kup will get another one. Then he growls, "Just put it aside like he asked. Don't make me slagging peace-tie that." They're a military, not a Renaissance festival!
"Yeah, do what you can, and document it for someone with more experience with sparks." Then Kup gets a sly thought, and he asks Long Haul, "Don't suppose the soldiers in Crystal City ever had anything like that design?" He gestures vaguely at Drift. "S'pose you were more on maintenance duty most of the time. Wouldn't have run into them."
