So Sentinel Prime is dead. First off, I want to say that this is not a Sentinel-bashing thing. I like the character a lot! And actually, he didn't really screw up, personally, on the Reaver mission. So he didn't go in lance blazing - these Autobots would have wanted him to at least try to be friendly, anyway. Falling through a floor wasn't exactly his fault, and he had no way of knowing that Elita-1 was going to come down with a case of the evil and brutally murder him. (Though in retrospect, he probably should have expected that, but when Sentinel isn't trusting, people criticise him for being paranoid!) Splitting into manageable teams to cover more ground was a tactically sound idea, and he did ask for help with the self-destruct when he found it.
Sentinel Prime was always going to die, since before I even started his application. See, Kiera and I are Firefly fans (Alliance for life! Forget you, Browncoats), and after seeing Animated, we logically felt that it needed more space cannibalism. Spittor is just not cutting it. Kiera wanted to run something wherein a good guy goes Reaver-nuts and takes out another good guy. After thinking about characters, she decided on Elita-1, feeling that the tragically wronged young female ought to be sympathetic, and given that there was an Optimus in the game, it just seemed natural to offer Sentinel for the chopping block. It'd be good cinema.
Adminimus always knew and kindly helped us along with the plot.
There were a lot of unexpected turns along the way. Elita-1 breaking Sentinel's head codewise was definitely not planned in advance, and neither was the whole business with Oil Slick. Most of this was unplanned, really. I'm going to miss the game an awful lot. Sentinel had some great and unforeseen character interactions here, and I enjoyed getting to explore the path that Animated didn't take with him. Animated always flirted with him becoming a slightly better bot and reconciling with Optimus - heck, he offers Optimus a Guard position twice and even offers Optimus the position of Guard commander! But Animated never followed through. Though I've played around with Sentinel being a bit of a better bot, in some ways, I also played around with him becoming a worse Autobot - a more effective manipulator, more cold-blooded; more dangerous. Two steps forward and one step back, or one step forward and two steps back? Your mileage may vary.
I always did figure that he had to be a bit more competent than the show portrayed him as being, since he was the Elite Guard Commander. I'm sure he lied and sucked up to some extent to get to that job, but deception and flattery only go so far. He had to be pretty good at what he does. So I enjoyed getting to work on some of his weak spots in training threads, and I had fun with what combat threads that he had.
I have my regrets. There were an awful lot of great-sounding plots on this board that I was really looking forward to. (I am so bummed about not being able to do something that Ultra Magnus's mun suggested; you don't even know.) However, the Reaver plot came up now, and so Sentinel's number was up. I guess it's a trope for Sentinel Primes to die, anyway. I know that Optimus's mun really wanted Optimus to find out about Elita-1 borrowing Omega Supreme's powers somehow, so I put together that will. I know it's not as satisfying as it could be, but it's at least something, and if Elita-1 was brigged, she couldn't have gone Reaver-crazy, so the information had to come out somehow after she went crazy.
I might pick up another character again here someday. I shall be quite glad to do any Space II era threads that people would like me to do set prior to his death, and I'll still work on any threads I'm currently in. They're important to me.
Thanks for the great ride. Y'all are wonderful.
