M6W2D7, at a Denny's, semi-private
So there's a call of a metahuman disturbance at a... Denny's. Kate grumbles, "They better not be tryin' ta animate the sign again to send it on a rampage downtown."
As she pulls over to make the turn into the Denny's parking lot, she corrects herself, "Erm, I'm not sure that actually happened. You know how it is, lad."
It's probably just something petty, she bets, like the Bacon Sundae turned a latent's skin green and someone had a hissy fit over it. Kate parks the car and gets ready to go see just what the deal actually is.

Hollister smiles absently and nods at Kate's moment of commiseration, his eyes on the next few minutes, his mind on protecting itself. He's thankful the headache has stayed a dull throb all day, but the downside is that he's had it all day.
"Yes, ma'am," he says, collecting himself and adjusting his glasses before piling out of the car after her. Truth is, not that he's told anyone, he's not entirely sure he does know how it is. Stuart Hollister is more of a name tacked onto the Micromaster Holi in a human body than anything else. He understands things going on around him as if they're perfectly normal, but he isn't sure that's the work of latent memories; he doesn't seem to have any. Or if he has any, they're probably drowned out by the unending susurrus of other thoughts around him.
He misses being able to turn the radio off.

"The deal" comes crashing out through the front door.
An abnormally pale woman whose skin has an almost purple cast, whose light, light hair is faintly yellow tinted and whose right hand has been replaced with a hook is in the midst of swinging a chain-wrapped left fist towards an opponent, even as the man hits the ground. There's a large, noticeable gash on her right arm that she appears to not be paying any attention to, one that doesn't bleed like it should.
"I got no idea why you started this," she roars at her opponent, "but I'm gonna finish it. Wreck and rule!"

Kate skillfully resists the urge to facepalm. Facepalming in a situation like this just gets good bots killed. What she actually does is shout, "Police! Everybody stop," grabs her club, and tries to catch the woman's chain on the club before it can connect with the man on the ground.
Of all the blasted things it could be, did it have to be this? Kate remembers fighting Impactor, and as fun as that was, it is not an experience she's keen on repeating too soon.

Kate moves to contain the blatantly aggressive woman ā probably the reason for the call, he thinks ā and Hollister moves to get the guy on the ground clear. There's no assumption he's innocent, but there's no leaving him exposed either. Not in Hollister's book.
"I've got you covered, sā sarge," he tells Kate as he tries dragging the fellow out of the way. He almost said sir. She isn't a sir!

Imp's chain-wrapped arm is caught by Kate's club, and she immediately yanks that arm towards herself, attempting to pull the club out of her grip. "Stupid pile of scrap swung first," she growls. "Had a problem with me using the slagging waste disposal!"
Meanwhile, the man that Holister is pulling out of the way is yelling, eyes wide and terrified. "She's a freak! A monster!" He points furiously at Imp. "People like you should be locked up!" He could mean the fact that she's a meta.

Kate is totally a 'sir'. This is bad. This is looking like aggravated assault, which can be a felony, and to be honest, Kate is not so concerned about Impactor - because she is sure that is who it is - as she is about what Impactor is going to do the prison guards if she gets tossed in the slammer for 15 years. Because this is a fight over a... trash can? Is that what Impactor means? So unless that other guy pulled a gun that's been knocked away earlier in the fight or something... This is the kind of thing that Autobots will... tolerate amongst themselves, to an extent, so Kate is going to need to get it across to Impactor and fast that she can't do this right now, or things will get uglier than they already are, and Kate needs to do so in a way that doesn't get people looking at her like she's crazy. She says firmly, "We'll figure out who did what later. You're both stopping now." She tightens her grip and plants her feet and tries to drag Impactor by the chain towards her instead, reaching out to try to grab Impactor by the ear with her other hand. Looks like the kid's got the other guy handled. Good for him. Maybe if she can get Impactor's ear, she can get a word in edgewise.

OOC: Skipping Stuart due to time out.
Imp is pulled forward - by a cop that's considerably stronger than she is. Since she can't resist the action, she instead tries to work with it, twisting to slam her shoulder first into the other, though the move makes it easier for the other woman to grab hold that ear.

"That's enough, sir," Hollister advises the man in a sternly disapproving tone even as he tries helping him to his feet and ushering him further from the brawl. Comments like that will only make the situation worse! He eyes Kate worriedly over his shoulder as he goes.

Kate does not appear to be worried. She mostly just looks annoyed as the smelter. Indeed, Det. Hollister may be able to note that she really is just amazingly annoyed. Weathering the hit as best as she can and still stay standing, she snaps, "Whaddya doing, trying to give me an impacted shoulder? C'mon, if you didn't start this, don't finish it, either. Give it up, man." If pressed later, she'll say that 'man' was just a heat of the moment slip, but it was actually quite deliberate. Kate thinks. Impactor's got what looks like a bad knife wound on the one arm, and it sounds like the other guy may have attacked first - might even be a hate crime, given some of what he's saying - but some slag-head prosecutors will go out of their way to claim that a woman used too much force in defending herself against a man, especially if the woman went for a weapon during the fight. If she can get Impactor close enough for a whisper, she'll growl, "I'm Kup, and I seem to recall your interview turned into a brawl, too."

Imp didn't "pull" a weapon. She keeps the chain wrapped around the one arm most of the time, and she can't really do much about the hook one way or another.
Her eyes open wide with realization at the hints, which stops her struggling long enough for Kate's explanation to get through. She smirks at the cop's comment about the interview ending in a brawl and mutters, "Other guy swung first that time, too." Then, if allowed, she'll straighten up and, more seriously, adds, "But no, I didn't provoke this one. Like I said, guy took issue with me using the waste disposal room."
"What, you stupid, too?" yells the man she'd been fighting with, even as Holister drags him further away from Kate and Imp. "It's called a 'bathroom,' you psycho trans!"
Normally, calling Imp stupid would invite a renewal of hostilities, but for the moment she's too startled by what the man had called her. Eyes wide, she wonders, "How'd he know?"
She continues to quite clearly Not Get It, but this might well clarify matters for Kate, who has a full set of human memories to go with her new form.

Hollister goes from stern to angry in no time at all, and perhaps he's a little more forceful than he needs to be as he hauls the man further away, hopefully out of Imp's earshot.
"Sir," he snaps, "I said that's enough. Are you trying to start the fight all over again?" He pauses to juggle holding the man near one elbow and adjusting his glasses. He angles for a spot several paces further away before he asks, taking a bracing breath, "What happened? Start from the beginning, and don't skip any details." And in spite of the throbbing in his skull, he tries to focus on just this one so he can better hear what the man might not say.

Clearly, Impactor needs to stop hanging out with such violent people who keep throwing the first punch.
Trans? This isn't about meta hate? It's about transgender hate? Kate wonders what she did to deserve needing to explain transgender politics to Impactor. She sighs and says, "How'd he know that you're transgendered? No offense, I know you probably think of yourself as a man, but to the rest of us, you still look like a woman."
Then she turns and looks over to Hollister, as if she's explaining something to the rookie, "Son, some of us, the gender that's in our head doesn't match how our bodies look. We call those people transgendered. Some transgendered folks get a sex reassignment operation to make their outsides look like what's inside. Some don't."
It is pretty unbelievable that a young man like Hollister would not know what transgender is, unless he had a very narrow and shallow upbringing, but it is more unbelievable that someone who is clearly transgender wouldn't know what it is. Hollister will just have to forgive Kate.
Hopefully Impactor is smart enough to just go along with this. Kate's going to have to go and talk to... everyone in the Denny's to try to figure out what actually happened here.

Imp is about to protest that no, she things of herself as a robot, when it hits her that Kate is trying to cover for her.
The down side is, if Imp were inclined to "play along" she probably would have paid attention to human waste disposal gender sorting norms.
So she shakes her head. "I don't see how any of that makes any bit of difference." Which is true, while not declaring herself to be a robot.
OOC: Apologies for not giving the story on the thug's behalf, although I'm thinking at this point, maybe we can handwave past the story telling, assume that both Imp and the guy she was fighting with get brought in because it needs to be sorted, and Imp calls for a lawyer?

Hollister will have to leave the sex ed infodumping for later. He just carries on getting the guy cuffed and possibly talking an explanation out of him in the process. Maybe even getting him to talk at a reasonably calm level, too, who knows. He just wonders how they're going to handle Impactor. And how crazy the report is going to look.
