Costigan frowns. His hearing is starting to come back, so he's pretty sure he heard what she said. So why does it give him a cold chill down his back?
"Ah remind you of a butt-ugly giant salamander? Damn, that's a low blow." Donal Costigan's false memories are well constructed; for some reason, that particular mid-south creature sticks in his memory. He's pretty sure he saw a few when he was younger, doing fieldwork in Arkansas for his geology degree.

"Hellbender is a person. Very loyal to his people. Says 'seriously' a lot. Tends to work underground," Esprit explains, and then she shrugs, "Other people are going to look into this. The FBI almost certainly. The CIA if those fish-men turn out to be foreign. What you might not expect is... Hollywood. Someone's going to want to buy the rights. There's the whole MLP3 filming crew in town. Consider retaining a lawyer, if you don't have one already."
Oh no, Esprit does not want anyone poking at Mr. Costigan overly much. He may not know who he is, but she expects that Victoria will come to collect him soon enough.
As she just warned him, a lot of people are going to be looking very closely at him.

"Serious--uh, really? So who is this guy besides a name?" Costigan asks, intrigued. Then he hears the rest of what Det. Hunt has to say. He sighs and buries his face in his arms. "Slag, could I just get some sleep? I can't deal with that right now."
He looks up again and says, resignation in his voice, "Got a suitable lawyer to recommend, or is that a conflict of interest?"

"Used to be a coworker. I'm new in town," Esprit explains.
The logical assumption is that this Hellbender was a small time white hat vigilante wherever Esprit used to be. She will not mind if he makes that assumption.
That will also explain why she has no lawyers to recommend: she's new in town.
"That's all I had, Mr. Costigan. Do take care."

"Ah always do," he replies. In a profession where fieldwork means "explosions and massive rockfalls", 'taking care' means 'not a stupid statistic'. "Ah will take your advice under serious consideration. Can I go now?"
--- Wrap?

"Get your rest," Esprit says, as she heads off to go look for Det. Dahlia, who is probably doing something more interesting, like bare-knuckle boxing a fish-man.
Wrap.
