The 'partyline' falls silent for awhile, but then something happens that Kup feels the other more-or-less brains of the outfit should be aware of (although Perceptor would already know).
//Guys, we got a -ung-// he cuts off with a grunt, possibly induced by being Dino-hugged (and demonstrating that it's not just combat that his general toughness comes in handy) //We got a Grimlock. I'm pretty sure he's mine.//

//Ah, he ain't so bad. Just gotta know how to talk to him.//
Kup generally just promises to tell them stories if they behave themselves. Works remarkably well.
//And there's that guy shouting for Prowl over the airwaves. I can see him. Blue guy.//
//Looks like I'll be playing the welcom wagon for the next bit.//

//Wait, we're talking about Grimlock here! Ten gigs of attitude in a five gig hard drive! I still haven't figured out how he got elected leader after Prime got offed...//

//... Leader? That's nuts. That also never happened in my reality.//
//But we're not talking about your Grimlock. We're talking my Grimlock. Unless yours is prone to greeting your Kup with a Tyrannosaurs-strength hug, too. I mean, sure, he can be like what you described if he don't like you. Optimus had all sortsa problems with him storming off or just generally being argumentative. But we don't have those sorts of problems with Rodimus in charge, because he likes Rodimus. And he likes me.//
//Likes my war stories,// Kup adds as explanation.

//...Okay, your Grimlock is officially more frightening than our Grimlock.//

An amused snort can be heard over the radio.
//Frankly, Nightbeat, I find the idea of any Grimlock as leader of the Autobots a helleva lot more frightening than the idea of a Grimlock that gives hugs. Make no mistake: we still ain't talking Barney.//
And how does Kup know about Barney? Spike treats the Autobots as a free baby-sitting service, is how! Granted, Nightbeat himself probably hasn't heard of Barney...

//Who the heck is Barney?//
There's the sense of Nightbeat shaking his head.
//Eh... Grim's pretty savvy, when he's not got his head stuck up his aft... I may throw out the rule book, but I don't think he's even read it.//

//Erm... there are times when I doubt our Grimlock can read, Nightbeat. He's stubborn, violent, and none too bright. But like I said, if he decides he likes you, he can be friendly... affectionate, really, and... almost docile.//
//There are plenty of Autobots who avoid him for their own safety, and rightfully so, but as for me, the biggest problem I got is they're almost too fond of me. Always crowding around for stories, practically underfoot.//
//You got any idea what it's like to have five full-sized dinosaurs underfoot?//

// Kup? // Perceptor queries some short time later. If no one has noticed by now, then the veteran probably should spot that Perceptor is no longer in his immediate vicinity. // Are you familiar with the configuration of the inhabitants of Gillanan IV? //

// Synapse has returned from scouting the asteroid belt. // Okay, so they're pretty sure that it's Gillanan IV, but a good scientist assumes nothing until proven. // f I might trouble you to examine an image of a specimen he brought back, for confirmation? //
And, provided that Kup agrees, he fires off an image of the new deactivated mechanism lying in state in Repair.

//All right,// Kup agrees to the transfer. It takes a moment to process, as Perceptor tends to send images in considerably higher resolution than he's used to receiving over the radio, but when he's had the chance, Kup sighs. //Yeah. Yeah, that's one of them.//

// Understood. I will keep you appraised to my findings. //
There's a long moment of pause, before Perceptor hesitantly adds, // Has there been any additional contact from Skyfire? // He's really trying not to fret too obviously. Honest. He just can't help it.

//I'm afraid not, lad. He'd be out of blackout by now, so he's probably choosing not to contact me. At this point, I've told him all I'm willing to. We have to assume that anything he hears is going to be heard by Starscream, understand? So no details about location, who we've got with us, none of that. But really, I think at this point our best bet is to stand back and give Starscream a chance to trip himself up, at least until we get more information.//
