Month Four, Week Three, Day Two. Semi-private.
I'm railroading the designer assignments since Mirage already assigned them in the Project Runway OOC thread.It's bright and early in Central Park, likely much to some of the desingers' dismay as Tim Gunn herds them into a massive tent emblazoned with the Project Runway logo. Inside, there are six chairs set up before a runway. But at the foot of the runway, there are six large objects completely draped in haze grey cloth. Most of them are large enough to be cars, though one is significantly smaller, and another is significantly larger.
When the episode airs, it cuts to Christ Marches in a white room. He rubs his face sleepily. "Okay. Seriously. The sun is barely up, and it looks like there are cars under these tarps, and all I can think is 'please don't make me drive before I have my coffee'." He laughs. "Today's gonna be a nap day for sure!"
Once the designers are seated, Heidi Klum strides onto stage in a pair of burnt red jeans and a black halterneck top. Accents of white lace trace the seams of the top, while her black boots are laced with a flash of red. She's carrying the black velvet bag some of them may have come to dread. Heidi smiles at the assembled designers. "Hello." She waits for the designers to chorus out sleepy 'Hi's. "Are you ready for your next challenge?" Again she waits for their reply. "High fashion often goes with high-end vehicles - Cinderella would not have been welcome at the ball if she arrived in a wagon. For this challenge, you will create a couture1 look inspired by one of these six incredibly high-end vehicles."
When the episode airs, it cuts to Georgia Gaelhaus. She looks serious, thoughtful. "Zis will truly be a challenge - very different from my usual inspirations."
"Georgia, you are the winner of the last challenge, so you get to pick your vehicle first." Heidi glances at the covered vehicles. "Once everyone has made their choice, we will uncover the vehicles."
When the episode airs, it cuts to Greta Stone in a white room. "Vehicles?" she says in open disgust. "The last thing the fashion world needs is to look more mechanical. I don't care how popular that Witwicky made the Moonbase; silver spandex can't go off the runway soon enough."
After Georgia selects her vehicle, Heidi reaches into the button bag and pulls out Sean Archer's name. She quickly goes through the designers, with Christopher choosing second-to-last, and Sarentino getting the last vehicle by default. Stage-hands dressed all in black unveil each vehicle in turn. Georgia has selected a classy, dark red 1957 Ford Fairlane. A grey Datsun Fairlady-Z awaits Sean. Greta has a blue-and-white racecar that has to be a prototype design. A bright red and orange modded Winnebago (seriously, it has a spoiler) awaits Christ. For Christopher, a military grey McDonnell Douglas X-36 jet awaits him. And for Sarentino, a blue treaded motorbike. Greta blurts, "White after Labor Day?" Georgia looks surprised, then bursts into a sudden smile. Christopher looks dubiously at the jet, then it's like a sudden idea lights up his eyes. Sarentino grins with delight at his motorbike. Sean gives a faint thoughtful nod, looking as if he's already planning. Christ has his hands on his cheeks, looking about ready to scream with glee.
When the episode airs, it cuts to Christ in a white room. "Dammit, I wanted the red one- but flames will do!"
When the episode airs, it cuts to Sarentino Reiz in a white room. "This is probably going to be the few most challenging days of my life to date," he says thoughtfully, a hand on his chin. "I’ve never had to design a dress with cars in mind before, much less a bike like that!" He shakes his head. "There’s just so many different ideas that I just need to sit down and try to sort them out at this point."
"There's a twist, designers!" Heidi says cheerfully, as if she knows how much words like that strike fear into the hearts of the contestants. "You will also be working for a client with this challenge. Your couture look must also satisfy their tastes and complement their personalities."
When the episode airs, it cuts to Greta in a white room. "A car and a client? Too many cooks spoil the broth, you know," she sniffs. Of course, if the design goes poorly, it'll be all the client's fault.
"Let's meet your clients." Which is the cue for the Autobots to transform. 1. For this plot, Heidi means a unique, highly-fashionable, and well-made outfit that is not intended for anyone else but the client.
All designers posed based on communication with their players.
I'd like to remind everyone of the suggested round-format for the design thread(s).

On cue, the blue and white futuristic racecar transforms into a blue and white robot with a possibly recognizable emblem on his chest. Mirage has been in the public eye a bit more than some Autobots due to his position in the Elite Guard, so it's entirely possible that some of the designers might recognize him now. He shifts his weight to his left foot and brings his right hand over to clasp his left wrist in front of his torso. He is not smiling, and while he doesn't look displeased to be there, he does look much like what he is- a noble forced to perform for the peasants' pleasure. Once all the Autobots are transformed, Tim Gunn steps between them and the designers. "Designers, allow me to introduce your clients and inspiration for this challenge, members of the Autobots. For your Raceway Couture challenge you must design a garment that compliments not only the look of your client's vehicle mode, but their personality and personal aesthetic. You will have 30 minutes to confer with your client and thirty minutes to sketch before we head over to Mood*. Use your time wisely, and I'll see you in an hour." Tim exits the tent. Mirage looks over at his designer. "Good day. My name is Mirage." Christ Marches nearly bounces off his seat when Rodimus Prime transforms and smiles that cocky smile. He's over next to the Prime as soon as Tim allows, looking Rodimus up and down approvingly. "Oh, this is perfect! I love your color palate. We are going to have so much fun." Christ starts to walk around Rodimus. "So I have to ask if you're a fan of Spaceballs?

Rodimus grins down at the human circling around him, his widest, cockiest smile settled on his lips. "Glad you approve!" he answers. He starts to scrunch in preparation for sitting - it puts him more on the level of the one he's talking to - but changes his mind and straightens back up as Christ starts to circle. Standing will make easier for the human to get a good look.
He considers the question briefly, then shrugs. "It was fun, but I don't think I'd watch it over and over." He pauses, and his grin returns in full force. "Over, maybe, but not over and over."
Sean's eyes widen as the Autobot transforms, and then he grins and gives a brief, silent laugh - one that's visible, but not audible.
Cut to white room. Sean Archer is grinning here, too, and there's laughter in his voice. "Aliens! We get to work with actual robot aliens! This is just incredible. When I first saw Bluestreak, I really wasn't sure. Don't get me wrong, he's a beautiful car, but of the group, he's probably the most... ordinary of them, I guess? Maybe him and Farlane, they're both classics." Future time. Future time. Bluestreak might well be bordering on antique. "But then he transformed!"
Sean pushes himself out of the seat, and while he might not quite have the energy of Christ Marches, still his excitement is evident. Aliens! He looks up at Bluestreak, shakes his head, and at first can only say, "Wow." Then, after a moment, "Wow," again. He starts to look the Autobot over, and finally pushes himself into starting conversation, so as to better get to know his client. "So, uhm... how have you been enjoying your time on Earth so far? Get any chance to sample our music, erm... what was your name?"

Bluestreak smiled shyly at first, but couldn't help responding to Sean's enthusiasm. "I'm Bluestreak, which is kind of a funny name, since there's not any blue on me at all! I like Earth; it's a pretty world, though I know some of the guys had trouble getting used to growing stuff everywhere, just all by itself without being planned or built or anything. I like your Southwest, with all that rust-red stone, and the dark green bushes, and the blue skies, and the really nice sunrises."
The gray and white Autobot pauses a moment to consider the rest of the question, and settles to his knees, to avoid overwhelming the young human. "The only music I heard was something Blaster used to play--disco, I think he called it? I like Blaster, but that wasn't really to my taste. Jazz played some really interesting stuff, same as his name. I could get to like it."
Georgia looks up at Farlane as the Autobot rises, her smile easing the deep lines on her face. "Oh, my. You will be quite ze delightful challenge." She picks up her sketch pad and starts taking notes as she walks around the Autobot.
"Such lovely, strong colors--yes, I want to compliment them, but not disappear into them. Tell me a bit about yourself, Farlane; what do you like? Did you choose your colors or were they chosen for you? What do they mean to you? What interests you about we humans?"

Farlane virtually preens under Georgia’s watch, happily soaking up the attention and casually posing for her. He thinks he’s going to like this event. He thinks he’ll like it very much!
And then she asks him about his color scheme. Which was really expected since this was a fashion show, but it was still another thing to actually try and answer it. “Well, I got it at a dance gig in a space station just left a’ the Geila Nebula. Met some good friends there and it kinda stuck around,” he chuckles a bit awkwardly. “Talented dancers and very friendly folk there.”
He looks a bit more contemplative when she asks him what interested him about humans before answering, a mischievous smile on his face, “Well, gosh, I think you lot might have some a’ nicest smiles I ever did see.” Show’s barely started and he’s already flirting with his designer!
After the initial shock of watching vehicles turn into robots, Sarentino is gets a rather ominous feeling when he peers up at the transformed bike. Was it just him, or did the fellow look a biiiit.... nervous? Regardless, he gives the guy a friendly grin and takes out his notepad.
“Your threads are definitely going to be an interesting texture to work with and your color scheme has endless possibilities!” he’s already sketching down a few ideas and imagining what textures and colors would work as it is. “Tell me, what are your hobbies? Interests?”

Nervous is putting it rather lightly, but Mayday is trying to keep himself in check! Which doesn't stop him from glancing around shiftily like he's expecting someone to start spitting acid at any moment. Having to be on Earth and around humans isn't actually that big of a deal - between Gillanan III and Pz-Zazz he's starting to get used to organics - it's that he has to socialize! In public! On camera! And try not to make the Autobots look terrible! Oh, the pressure!
Staring down at Sarentino, he tries to return the friendly grin, hoping it doesn't come out too awkwardly - bad optic, no twitching a litte! - and gives a nervous chuckle. "Er, uh, thanks?" Was that a compliment? Or just observations? "I, um, I build spaceships. And fix them. And... clean. Things." Those are terrible interests, what if people judge him for being boring? Quick, think of an interesting hobby! "Also... video games?"
Christopher approaches Skyblast with one hand pressed to his face and his mouth wide in an awed smile.
"Oh my god, honey, look at you!" he says with a distinct squeal to his voice. How can he not be excited having an alien as a client? It's readily apparent, however, that his particular alien robot has a rather distinct aesthetic compared to the other clients. "Oh wow, you're complicated aren't you?"
He quickly claps a hand to his chest, looking apologetic. "Oh geez, that's not rude of me to say, is it? You have absolutely gorgeous lines as a jet though!"
When the episode airs, it cuts to a shot of Christopher in the white room. He has an incredibly self-satisfied grin on his face as he starts to speak. "When they uncovered Skyblast, even before he transformed I just could not believe my eyes. It was like, oh, okay, everybody else has cars, whatever, no big deal. But me? I got a *BLEEP*-ing jet!"

OOC: Posing of Christopher done with Mayday's player's permission.
Skyblast definitely mugs for the cameras, turning around slowly, flexing his body into interesting but tasteful poses. He says evenly, "I've heard worse... and I've definitely heard better. Only as a jet?" Skyblast laughs, the sound like bells, wings flicking. "Now, I promise this won't take more than 30 minutes, but tell me, are you afraid of heights? Do you get airsick?"
When he gets a negative on both counts back from his designer, Skyblast transforms back into a jet. The thing about Skyblast that is definitely not stock is that he has claws that normally lie flat along his undercarriage, claws with which he uses to grab Christopher and fly off.
But it's okay, this is just a ratings stunt he ran by the producers earlier. See, they even have a film crew set up at the second location, just outside of New York City limits. Skyblast sets Christopher down, transforms, and gives him an unapologetic smile, explaining, "The FAA's a bit... touchy about New York airspace, and here's the thing - I'm an artist. The quickest way to get to know what I'm about is to see me perform."
Then he transforms again and takes to the air.
Greta doesn't exactly think these vehicles are all that high end. What is that one she's stuck with, a prop from BattleNASCAR Galactica? (In a stunning twist, it turns out Dale Earnhardt, Jr., has been replaced with a Cylon duplicate.) And is that a Winnebago?
Then they transform, and Greta has a rare moment where she gets over herself. Mirage's bearing is... he doesn't carry himself like the others do. They're all individuals, they all have their own styles, but there is definitely something peculiar about his posture that reminds her... hmm, not a pissy model, not a pouting superstar, something older, something more rarely seen.
She grins, rather widely, and she greets right back, "Greta Stone. You look like a winner. Am I right, Mirage? I bet you just hate losing... and I do, too, so let's get down to this. I know you can change your forms, but how much change can you really handle?"
In other words, how is Mirage going to handle more grey than he can handle?

"That rather depends on the change," Mirage says evenly, "I did not sign up expecting a makeover upon my person."
"I prefer classic profiles, classic color combinations, and clean lines. True, I don't like to lose, but I care more about station. I am a noble among my people- or was." he says, thinking that he should give the human something to go on from a fashion standpoint. Really, this whole thing is so undignified, parading about for these human's pleasure. His gaze is drawn to where Rodimus stands and the cackling human who is circling the Prime, then to Skyblast. When the skypainter takes off, Mirage sighs and shakes his head. Like Mirage couldn't see that coming.
Christ laughs again, and after some back and forth questioning which will be edited out later, "Okay honey, so I can tell you're not afraid of bold fashion choices. One last question- what do you find attractive in another... person? Robot? What types of lines and colors combinations draw your eye?"

Rodimus knits his brow-ridges. "I usually prefer... lithe builds. Smaller cars, usually, though really... bold personalities are also a turn-on," he explains. Oh, wait, Christ asked about lines and color combinations, not personalities. He rubs the back of his head. "I do like pinks or reddish colors a lot," Hot Rod was magenta, after all, "but mostly, I just like brights." He's from the Marvel universe. They're all brightly colored.
He turns a moment to watch Skyblast take off, brow-ridges raised, then shrugs.
Sean opens his eyes a bit wider. "No, no, please, stand!" he encourages. "It gives me a better idea about your lines, and the way you stand it..." he makes a rolling gesture with his right hand, "it gives me a better... feel for your body language."
He starts to walk around Bluestreak. "So... how do you normally like to express yourself?"
Sean will soon find out the answer is: verbally. At great length.

Bluestreak obliging stands back up, being very careful where he puts his feet. Sure, he's not Prime's size, but a casual bump from him could seriously hurt Sean or one of the other humans. He gives Sean a puzzled look, his hands resting lightly on his hips.
"Express myself? Do you mean like art or writing or something? I'm not an artist, nothing like that, though Sunstreaker used to be, before the war. He was a painter, not a sculptor, though. Now Skyblast over there is a skypainter--and look, there he goes!" Bluestreak points at the rapidly soaring little jet. "He's a fun little guy. Likes to party; kind of reminds me of Jazz that way. Now Jazz, he expressed himself with music; everything was musical to him. He'd play music that reflected his mood, and lots of times he'd play music to cheer everyone else up. He used a lot of music jargon when he talked, too. I don't do anything like that."
Bluestreak purses his mouth and thinks for a brief moment. "I do write, sometimes. Poetry, but it's rather private. I don't share it around, because it's not really good enough. I can put down words that mean something to me, but I'm not sure I can find just the right words to make other people feel what I'm feeling when I write. Do you know what I mean? Do you ever have an idea or a feeling in your mind, and you can't quite make it real enough for other people to see it?"
When the episode airs, it cuts to Georgia in the white room, who is more excited than her usual wont:
"Farlane has such an exuberant personality and color scheme. I would never have expected an intelligent robot like that to exist, let alone be my client! Project Runway continues to challenge me to do better and more extraordinary designs."
The normally somber Georgia smiles again. She can't help it; Farlane is simply enchanting! "I zee. So you are a dancer as well as a car, hmm?"
She walks around the enchanting pink and red robot, looking at him from all angles. "Not one for slow, formal dances, I think. Something energetic, athletic, even sassy--yes!" The older woman sits down and begins sketching, rapid quick strokes that outline a form and trace the outline and the drift of a garment. She looks up, the angle making her dark eyes look more sunken than usual. "So... are you sassy?"

“I know enough ballroom dancin’ to hang out with the pros and I so enjoy that.” He’s been many, many things after all, not just a show dancer. Pilot to courtier and everything in between. “My true love’s middle name is definitely Sassy though,” he grins brightly, doorwings flicking proudly. There’s always room for dancing in all professions! Except maybe office jobs. But you could still dance in those when the boss wasn’t looking.
… Farlane never really was the best of office workers.
“Ooh!” he exclaims when Skyblast takes off. He pauses to watch in delight because rowr, pretty jet boy’s showing off! “Now ain’t that a sight?” the pink car purrs happily to Georgia.
“My client was definitely rather nervous. I’m guessing he’s not too much of the outgoing sort going by his hobbies. Poor fellow,” Sarentino laughs awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head.
“You’re welcome,” Sarentino tries to smile reassuringly up at Mayday as he sketches out the lines. Clean lines, tidy folds... something a bit modern and perhaps a bit spacey?
“So, space ships? What kinds of space ships do you build?” he asks, “Also, what kind of video games do you like to play?”

"I, um, the kind you travel in?" That is a dumb answer, what other kind of spaceship is there! Mayday laughs awkwardly and twiddles his fingers. "I helped build and design ours, you know. Our spaceship. That we traveled here in. I helped." Curse his -5 modifier to charisma!
"And, uh. Non-competitive games, I guess?" He mutters to himself, likely not intending to be heard: "Not ones about puppies..."
He's not too great at his 'helping his designer design something for him business.
Christopher squeals - largely in delight, but partly in fear - as Skyblast spirits him away. He barely has time to get back his composure and get his hairdo back in place before the jet-robot takes off again and begins an awe-inspiring array of aerial acrobatics. And he's writing something in the sky, too! Well, not so much writing as drawing.
Unbeknownst to Christopher, Skyblast is painting portraits of the late Elita-1 and Sentinel Prime. All he knows is that it seems to be a picture of some robots, and it's amazing. An artist in the sky!
He gushes to Skyblast as the jet returns to take him back to the starting area, full of praise and ideas. As soon as they set down again he is going to have so much sketching to do!

Skyblast seems a little... less bubbly after he takes Christopher back. He's still shamelessly mugging for the camera and showing off, and he speaks easily and at length about his art, but there's just something a bit more subdued about him.
Elita-1 and Sentinel were jerks, but Skyblast was a jerk to them, and now that they're dead, he feels bad about it.
"No, no," Greta says, flourishing a hand dismissively and emphatically to make clear that she is not touching Mirage's paintjob or bodywork. She does not do automotives. Ugh. Mirage's comment about being former nobility is interesting, though, and she can't help but ask, "Bad divorce?"
Yeah, yeah, it probably doesn't work that way with alien robots. It just popped into her head and she said it. Whoops.
Most of her sketches are not going to appeal to Mirage. She has a rather crunchy granola style and tends toward a muted colour palette. There are a few that branch out into something that is... very grudgingly architectural. There is perhaps one design jammed into the corner, crammed and unloved, that Mirage might actually like.

Skipping to the sewing tent, mid-way through the work period.
"Hello designers!" Tim Gunn says as he enters the work tent, "I know you've all been working like mad little bees and I am very excited by your ideas. Some of you still have a a lot of work to do, however, and I'm quite frankly worried. Now, I'm sending in your models for a fitting, and your clients will also be present so for heaven's sake use this time wisely!"
Mirage walks in with his assigned model, a tall, muscular woman with cheekbones sharp as knives, fabulously big hair, and skin the color of a good mocha. Mirage tries to stay out of the way during the fitting itself, but he can't help looking askance at Gretchen's work-in-progress.
"Do you not believe in color?" he finally asks
White room. Christ blinks into the camera. "This is so much more difficult than I thought it would be. I mean, it should be easy because it just screams extravagant but I've gotten called out for being too costume before. Striking the balance is harder than it looks.
Christ greets Rodimus and his model (whose description will be up to Rodimus) with a tired- but enthusiastic- smile and immediately tells the girl to strip for the fitting. The design he settled on is a paneled piece with hard edges and smooth lines, in dark olive greens that will contrast nicely against Rodimus's flame-colored paint job. He has shiny gold and deep brown trims laid out. If it weren't for the types of fabrics, and the very modern, almost architectural cut to the dress's bodice, one might think he'd raided Greta's fabric stash.
There will be a sketch of the dress. Just not this post because Mirage's player is pretty dead right now.
"So what do you think so far? It's rough still, but you should be able to get the idea."

White room. Rodimus sits in the white room, grinning. "I have to say, it wasn't what I expected, especially after the way he focused on my flames. A lot more... muted. But definitely solid. Reminds me of a friend of mine, actually."
Rodimus Prime is a robot who spends all his time naked, and now he's being asked his opinion on clothes. This is a bit awkward. He looks startled, at first, by the design, then grins. "That's... pretty good. I like that!" He reaches over, holding his arm up against the fabric and nods. The model, a lithe Asian woman with long black hair and dark pools of eyes, shifts slightly as he moves his arm nearer, but keeps her composure well enough. "Goes pretty well, I think." Then he looks at the trims and immediately points to the gold one. "Definitely like that one better."
He may not know clothes, but he knows what colors he likes. And brown... really not on the list.
Sean grins. "I know what you mean, although I find that just means I need to try harder to bring it to form." He starts sketching furiously.
Skip to tent.
It seems that Bluestreak's silver colors and sleek yet classic design (and, perhaps, the fact that he's a robot) have suggested a sort of retro-future sensibility to Sean, the sort one sees in old school sci-fi. The model (whose description will be left to Bluestreak's player) sports what is shaping up to be a short, asymmetrical skirted garment in silvers and grays, with perhaps a few bright red accents here and there. The upper portion is off-the-shoulder with short sleeves, but there is a separate, detached collar with a small cape-let attached to the back. The sketches he has suggest more thinking along that "future that wasn't" line, and he keeps those on hand in case Bluestreak should show an interest in some of them.
"I think I'm starting to get a real feel for this. I went for a palette that matched up with yours instead of contrasted because that silver really worked for me, but I need to make sure it works for you."
OOC: I don't know if clients are ever white roomed, but they are now. Also, I hope to get some rough sketches of the dress up by my next post.
