"Yeah," Slider adds as a receptacle slit opens in his mask for him to take a sip. The pink hued fluid splashes on the spotter's faceplate as he tries to finish his sentence before he's done drinking. A cough and a swipe of the hand only serves to spread the energon over a bigger area, leaving the much of the aforementioned plate bright pink.
"Like I was saying, I just want us to know a little bit more about you guys. You don't have to talk about the war. We all have our bad memories of it..."

Okay. Drift shall search his memories for something not bad and not about the war.
....
...
Crystal City.
No, he...really doesn't want to talk about that.
"Maybe work better this way: Ask what you want to know." Because anything he comes up with is...going to suck.

Cheetor makes a 'really?' face at Drift's answer. By the Allspark, it's like Dinobot turned up to 11.
"Well. Function, hobbies, that sort of stuff. What makes you who you are? Like me - former explorer turned fighter and recon 'bot. I like going running, see how fast I can move and if I can improve that."

"You're a recon 'bot? So am I!" Slider exclaimed, more happy than shocked at the statement. It meant there was some common footing. Frankly, considering Cheetor's placement on the general forces list, Slider had always considered him destined for command someday. The same could be said for Drift, whom he turned his attention back to so as not to seem rude.
"Also, what's with that long, sword-thing on your back? It looks kind of old."

Dinobot might be insulted by the comparison, especially as Drift does not have the rrrrrrrrr sound down, at all.
"I kill things." Like conversations.
Hobbies? Please to use words Drift can understand? He's a bit tired of all this Autobot lingo.
What made him who he was? Right. Be sociable, Drift. It will not kill you to share. you can always kill them later: you know where they sleep, after all. Deep breath. "Spent most of my life starving in the gutters underground. Finally got a chance to do something to make that change. Make everything change."
That's a lot of words for Drift. He's going to stare at his cube for a moment as the other two bond. Because he loves being reminded that he doesn't fit in here. "Sword belonged to...a friend of mine. He's dead."

It's the angst and the grump that counts, not the saurian noises!
"Yeah, most what I did was run or fly around and see what the Preds or Vehicons were up to. Check back in with the Bossbot, then see what we could do to make them have a bad day." Cheetor grins a bit as he thinks back to the stuff on Earth. Good times, those. Mostly.
Drift's response gets a blank, awkward stare from Cheetor. "...well, making change happen is good." Long as it's a good change. However, getting this much out of the swordbot seems a blessing, so not to push his luck.
However, the tidbit about the sword brings a solemn air to Cheetor's mood. "Ah, I... I know how that is." He didn't get any physical things from Dinobot, but he can relate!
It's probably best to not mention that said dead friend is alive and well on the ship.

"You're really lucky, you know Drift," Slider said after finishing his cube, "Most of us never get anything to remind us of the ones who didn't make it."
Cheetor is right correct, however. Pushing for more might make Drift clamp up entirely, the "I kill things" comment helps. So Slider redirects while he plucks a solvent wipe from subspace to clean his face off.
"So what about you Cheetor?"

((OOC gdit--if I go more than a day after tag, please stab me on IM? I even switched email address for bookmarks and no dice. ))
"Oh yeah, real lucky. Watched him get killed in front of me. For me. Great." Shut up, Drift. This probably isn't what Slider meant about 'getting to know each other'.
He growls at his own stupidity, taking a long drink from his cube. "Sorry. Just...kind of recent for me." Frag. "What...uh...what hobbies do you have?"
It sounds pained, forced, but he is trying. He's just not good at this.

Cheetor nods at Slider, then winces a bit at Drift. However, the attempt to recover showed they were making some progress!
"Well, like I said - former explorer turned soldier. The ship I was on was a science vessel that got pegged to chase some Pred criminals since we were closest. Spent a lot of time on Earth. Wound up protecting my ancestors, literally." He shakes his head. "Time traveling is weird."

Time traveling is weird. It was a wonder that their reality even did it at all considering how much could go wrong. But with a few centuries of peace under their belts, pushing the boundaries of science in the name of exploration could come easy to anyone.
"I'm sorry," he says to Drift, "I didn't mean anything by it. It just seemed like he must have been a good friend if he left you the sword."
At least Drift was opening up now, and that was a good thing. He'd even asked a question. In response, Slider decided to come clean with the both of them.
"I really don't have any hobbies. I never got the chance to pick any up with all the fighting and the training. That's part of the reason I wanted to have a drink with you guys. I wanted to pick up a little bit of life beyond the duty roster."

Once again, Drift is left thinking that everyone else's reality is fraggin' bizarre. Women. Zombies. Special invisibility powers. And now time travel. You know what mechs could do in his reality? Go to the Dead Universe. Yeah, that's...about it. Expansion.
Well, the question seemed to go over...better than anything else he's tried, so, he's going to keep going with that. Maybe it was a fluke, maybe not.
"What's a science vessel do?" He's picturing a ship full of nerds. Nerding around space. Cheetor...doesn't really look like a nerd.
He shrugs of Slider's apology. "Not your problem. Yeah he was a...good friend." He forces a grin. "Same here. Not really any time for hobbies. Just staying alive." He looks moodily around the room. "Kind of part of my problem."

Pot calling the kettle black there, Drift - lots of folks would consider the Dead Universe really fraggin' weird.
"Well, it's a start" he says to Slider, raising his cube for a moment in acknowledgement.
"Our vessel was sent out to explore - see what's out there that we hadn't seen yet." Cheetor chuckles. "We got a lot more than we bargained for, though."

Slider offered Drift the approximation of a smile. For all the orneriness and agression, Drift really did seem to understand his problem.
"Did you find anything interesting before you crashed? And what was Earth like?" he ask Cheetor.
OOC: Gah! Brain not working!

(ooc: slides in under poke)
The whole idea of just...toodling around space to see what was there blows Drift's mind for a moment, just on time and resources alone. Even the Circle had left...for a reason. They'd had a purpose. "Yeah?" That sounded ominous. "Seem to have made it through all right." Maybe Cheetor was a bit tougher than he looked.
Which...wasn't saying much in Drift's estimation.
Ha! He is getting good at this question-asking thing. He manages a nod to acknowledge Slider's smile. "What kind of fighting you good at?" It's always good to know. Maybe they could swap stories.
Oh wait. No they couldn't.

Cheetor shakes his head at Slider. "No, we hadn't gotten too far before we were called. Earth..." Cheetor leans back in his chair, scratching his head a bit. "Well, it was rather deserted, but we were in its distant past."
A shrug at Drift. "Yeah, we did alright by my gauge - stopped Megatron from wrecking the timestream or the planet, so."
