Month 1, Week 1, Day 7, Event Horizon training room
Rules
* I will randomly assign each of you a role via PM, which may be pro-town, pro-mafia, or other. You do not need to reveal your role ICly or OOCly, though you can if you want. You can claim to be a role you are not, as well. For example, a Mafia may claim to be a Cop, or a Doctor could claim to be a vanilla Townie. Why would you want to do this? Well, the Mafia might want to kill the Doctor, so if the Doctor admits who s/he is, the Mafia might try to kill him/her! However, if the Town is trying to lynch the Doctor, claiming that s/he is the Doctor may convince the Town not to kill him/her. * A 'Day' in this game lasts two OOC days. During the Day, the town can vote to lynch someone. These votes are public. So if Joebot wants to lynch Saracon, he can just say, "I vote to lynch Saracon," or something like that. As long as a majority hasn't been reached, you can change your votes. If a majority is reached, I'll proceed with the lynching, announcing the role of the lynchee after his/her death, and then I'll describe the night, who, if anyone, that the Mafia killed, and then start a new 'Day'. Lynching in day 0 is probably not a good idea, as the town has no idea who the mafia might be, but they can, if they want! * The Mafia vote on who they want to kill in secret. They can discuss their kill secretly via PM or IM, and they should PM their votes to Kup. * The Town wins when all the Mafia is dead. The Mafia wins when it outnumbers the town.
If you already have your role, feel free to post in and get to it. If you don't have a role yet, tell me which character you are entering, and I'll give you a role! Kup is skippable for the duration of this thread, because he's mostly just here to announce deaths and clues.
Day 0
Kup is in one of the training rooms, though most of the training dummies have been moved off to the side. He's sitting on the floor, and as folks enter, he gestures for them to sit down in a circle. Once there are enough of them around, he explains, "Wouldn't normally do something like this. Kind of a silly game. Though the thing is... sometimes, someone is out to get you. You can't panic when that happens. You just got a roll with it and make the best of it."
Mayday could do with a dose of not freaking out under pressure!
"So let me explain the rules." He does, shuffling a deck of cards all the time. When he's done, he asks, "Any questions?" and starts to pass out the cards.

Rodimus accepts his card, shaking his head. "None that I can think of," he says cheerfully. "Sounds like a lot of fun, actually!" That's why Rodimus is along, anyway. He likes games! Also, since he's only just out of medical, it's something to do that doesn't involve sitting around the sickbay rusting and getting older.
He finally picks up the card and looks at it, nodding faintly to himself before lifting his head to look around the room, checking to see who else is playing.

Clipper peers at the card she receives with an odd look on her face. "So... we have to kill each other off, then?" she asks. "Not for real, I mean, but," she waves her card briefly, "our characters?"
"That seems... sort of... pointless." She's not really understanding the whole premise. "I mean, how will we even know if anyone is out to get us? Much less who they are..."
War is weird. And kind of stupid.

Mayday accepts his card with all the trepidation of somebody accepting a live bomb and stares at it as if it could go off at any moment. Finally reading it instead of just eyeing it, he immediately clutches the card close to his chest and looks at Clipper. After a few moments, as the contents of his card clicks through his brain he turns to stare at the rest of the gathered Transformers with dawning horror. Finally, he fixes Kup with a kicked-cyberpuppy look, asking a silent 'Why are you doing thiiis?'
He would make an absolutely terrible poker player.

Nightbeat rolls into the room. He's a little late, and he's also in car mode. This is because his head is currently indisposed. However, Muzzle insisted in no uncertain terms that he "didn't need to be mommied," and "didn't want [Nighbeat] moping around here when [he] obviously wanted to be somewhere else," and "was about to start throwing things at [Nightbeat] if [Nightbeat] didn't scram, [Muzzle] swears to Jegus."
So here the detective is. "Am I too late for the fun?"

Farlane bounces into the room a moment later, heels clicking most cheerfully.
"Hello guys!" he chirps. And he will totally sidle up next to Mayday too, because adorable! And nervous! Obviously means the fellow needs a gaudy, boxom mech beside him. Obviously. "Sorry 'bout that, got a little caught up!" Well, now he's definitely shiny enough for the game, if anyone was wondering what he'd been caught up with.

Prowl arrives in his vehicle mode shortly after Farlane. He is quiet as he gets his card and looks it over, tilting his head to the side. If the roles are as interesting as this, the game will be interesting as well.
He looks at the others gathered and then waits to find out more about how this game will take place.

Rodimus grins at Clipper. "It's just a game, Clipper. We know that someone's out to get the others because those are the rules of the game, just like you know you have to get to the end of the board game because the rules say you do to win." He smirks as he looks towards Kup. "Unless Kup didn't include any 'mafia' cards just to see how long it takes us to lynch each other out of paranoia. I wouldn't put it past him."
He then beams at the new arrivals. "Naw, you guys are on time. Come on in!"

OOC: Still skippable. You all have 48 hours, from this post, to debate amongst yourself and decide what acts you might take.
Kup explains the rules again for anyone who is late. Then he explains to Clipper, "I slagging hope something like this would never happen in real life," except, sometimes, it does, " - you got a traitor in your group and you don't know who it is? You'd better investigate and find out who it is, rather than lynching willy nilly. Point is, in this game, you watch for voting patterns. Someone always seems really lynch-happy and always votes for townies, never for mafia? That might be suspicious."
He glances over at Mayday. "And it's a paranoid, pressure-cooker setting that's pretty 'safe', given it's a game. Some folks could do with learnin' to muster up some calm."
Kup shrugs and says, "I don't even know what all roles you got! Just what's in this deck." He smirks at the remaining cards in his hands. "So watch for suspicious behavior, but don't overthink it. One other thing - the dead don't talk in this game."
OOC: Just go skippable if you die; you can post back in and add comments at the end.

OOC: Skipping Clipper due to 24-hour timeout. On that note, does anything think it would be a good idea to switch to conference style?
Mayday lets out a tiny squeak as he realizes Farlane has sidled into his (disproportionately large) personal space. Trying to discretely shuffle away, he hunches up tighter and stares at the floor, flicking glances at Farlane from the corner of his optics. Farlane is intimidatingly pink. And curvy.
Despite his dance of the socially awkward, he catches Kup's bit about 'some folks' and resists the urge to blow a raspberry at him, instead just choosing to pout miserably.
Tucking his card away from prying eyes, he gives a nervous laugh and says, "So, um, I totally don't have any problem with the Mafia. Yet. Like, before they kill anyone. So, uh, why don't we just all decide to get along and that way nobody has to die and everybody lives happily ever after and we can go to do productive things like cleaning the ship! Ahahaha. Aha. Ha."
MISERABLE.

Nightbeat is really good at this sort of thing, and he's in vehicle mode so his poker face is even better than it would normally be. Also, his actual face is somewhere else, so there's that. He is the picture of cool, an unreadable enigma.
"Mayday, are you the Mafia?"

Clipper listens to Rodimus as he explains, and then nods. "I... get that. It's just..." A weird game. It's different, somehow, when it's all on a board and she's playing with game tokens or something like that. But this... deciding to "kill" someone, and not their token?
Clipper is beginning to grasp, however inexpertly, the whole point of the game.
She frowns at Nightbeat as she tucks her own card away for safe-keeping. "If he was, why would he say so?" she asks. "That seems kind of... counter-productive. And just hating Mafia just because they're Mafia if they haven't done anything is wrong." She waves a hand at Rodimus, sort of a quelling gesture, and adds, "Yes, I know it's the game, that it's part of the rules, but if we're doing this as a learning exercise for real life," and she nods at Kup there, "then it seems like we ought to treat it like real life. And hating someone just because of their name or their team when they haven't done anything wrong yet is very unfair. It's like... It's like if we decided to hate Jetfire - the older one - when he arrived, just because he wore a Decepticon symbol, when he hadn't done anything to us but wear some paint."
"Maybe that paint stands for something, but maybe it doesn't. Until he does something, we won't know, right? So why can't Mayday not have a problem with Mafia without being Mafia himself? I vote we live and let live."

"Heey. Prowler, babe!" he waves quickly to his roomie.
Aww, nervous adorable dude was shuffling away. Farlane gives him an encouraging grin but he gets the clue and stays where he is for the time being.
“I don’t think it’s, ah, that complicated,” he says in response to Clipper’s really rather moving speech, rubbing the back of his helm. “No one hates the mafia here,” personal issues people might have with each other aside, “but s’ like tag where the goal a’ the tagger ‘s to tag someone and the goal of the rest a’ the group is t’ run away from them. Bit more complicated n’ that what with the different roles, an’ I guess ya could use it as a practice fer real life kinda stuff, but, yeah.” Farlane has played games where the stake was his life, so he’s never going to think a game is ever ‘just’ a game. In this case though, the game is, well, a very oversimplified hypothetical situation.
“That said,” casting a glance between Mayday and Nightbeat, the pink car shrugs, “I ain’t got a reason t' start jumpin’ to conclusions when we’ve hardly even begun.”

OOC: Skipping folks due to time-out.
Nightbeat would turn to Clipper and scowl, but he can't, so he turns to Clipper and revs his engine instead. "'The Mafia' is an organized crime ring, Clipper. They sell drugs to kids, make the streets unsafe for honest people, and pollute the rivers by dumping the bodies of their enemies in them. In real life, whoever was the Mafia would have the option to turn themselves in and pay their debt to society. They could try to, anyway, but they'd probably end up with cement shoes. In this game, they can't. They can just kill people."
"And I'm not jumping to conclusions," he says, executing a neat little three-point turn to point at Farlane. (This is going to get real old, real fast.) "In my experience, when someone's that nervous, they've got something to hide. Also in my experience, you may as well ask the obvious questions when someone is so flustered they might crack."

OOC: Sliding back in here, then.
Rodimus shrugs as there are two votes for 'live and let live.' He strolls over towards where the training dummies and sets several of them on their side, sitting down. "Eh, I got no votes. Not this time. Gotta say, though, Nightbeat's right about how twitchy Mayday's being, but Mayday is always twitchy." Then he levels a faintly suspicious look towards Nightbeat. "And you know that, Nightbeat. Got any reason to try and throw off suspicion?"
