M9W1D4. Open. Police station. It's a slow day at the station. Detective Dahlia is measuring boredom in millidavids, which means the action figures have come out. Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Twilight Sparkle are huddled underneath the monitor while Twilight Spinister and High-Fashion Rodimus Prime duke it out for their magic pony powers. Despite being sparkly, Twilight Spinister appears to be a Thai kick-boxing ninja from the way Petunia plays with him. Meanwhile, High-Fashion Rodimus Prime has stolen Jack Sparrow's hat and sword from somewhere, and he is really buckling some swash. "What happened to the aliens, anyway?" she asks out of the blue.

As it so happens, Kate Mason is in the office dealing with paperwork. She glances up, eyebrow raised, and shrugs.
"Maybe they got new modes," she answers before starting to transfer some of her paperwork to her tablet. That way she can move over and talk to Dahlia at a... lower volume, if necessary. "No evidence they left. 'Bot ship's still up there."

"They can get new modes?" Petunia tilts her head slightly. "Like ponies? Can we have a Rodimus pony? And a Scourge pony? And they can have epic unicorn battles?"
She grins then sobers up a bit. "But we never knew where the 'Con ship was, did we? That's what really worries me."

Kate nods. "'Bots warned the ambassador. Was out in the early security reports," she explains. Of course, she already knew for other reasons, but this is a handy excuse. "And, erm... if I run into them, I'll ask about unicorn pony battles."
Kate intends to keep her word, too, because telling Rodimus, "Pee-Dee thinks you should get reformatted into a pony," would be pretty hilarious.
Then Kate scowls and shakes her head. "No, we didn't, and you ain't the only one worried."

"Oh, that's right! Mr. Witwicky. Did you know Hasbro did an awesome playset with him and the space-pirate captain?" Petunia reaches over to bring up her web-browser, intending to show Kate because obviously Kate is totally interested in these kinds of things.
She does pause slightly. "... We'll have to figure something out. That's our job, isn't it? Dealing with super-powered menaces?"

Kate's lips scooch to the right and her eyes narrow, looking decidedly unimpressed with the space-pirate set. "No. I didn't know that," she said in a tone that says, 'And I also didn't care.'
At the question, Kate tilts her head and considers. "Yes and no," she answers. "If they're hiding out in Detroit - and it's possible - yeah, we gotta find 'em, but our jurisdiction's pretty limited. We ain't exactly got the resources to be combing the planet lookin' for these guys." That, of course, is somewhat to her regret. Of course, the Autobots themselves have more resources, but at the moment, Kate would have a pretty difficult time operating the switches of the things.

Petunia hears that tone a lot. It rolls off her like water off a duck's back. If Kate didn't care, then she wasn't obligated to look.
"Why not?" Petunia tilts her head slightly. "There's got to be something that makes them not like our machines."

"Depends on the type, remember there's different types of aliens. Some of 'em can be found with Geiger counters, others gotta be looked for more carefully, and it don't help that since they've shown up, some humans have taken to copying their alternate modes. But we, the Detroit police department, don't have the resources to be policing the globe," Kate points out, since last she remembered, the conversation was specifically about them. "Too few of us, too big a planet, and people get pissy enough if we show up on other people's doorstep in another state, much less another country."

Petunia nods. That is a fair point. Then she reaches over to tap on her keyboard, bringing up a few graphs.
"They worry me," she says quietly. "There's been more meta-activity since they arrived. See? We've got steady stuff - Lord Slaughter, Metatron - but then suddenly there's this burst of new stuff - the Crimson Cavalier, Mordred... These guys are powerful, but we've never really seen them around before the aliens came."
She tilts her head slightly. "Now, that's not necessarily cause-and-effect, but that doesn't mean it's not significant somehow."

"Oh, it's significant," Kate says grimly, looking at the graphs and crossing her arms.
She pauses a moment, then looks down at Petunia.
"You ever feel like you're living the wrong life, Dahlia?"

Now there's a question.
"I'm a complete amnesiac who can't find good evidence I actually exist. Right now, Elly's theory that I might be a starfish is as good as any for where I come from." She adds in a mutter, "Or I'm an alien supervillain. That's a possibility, too."

Kate pulls up a chair next to Petunia's desk and sits down in it. She looks down at her tablet and speaks, voice quiet.
"What if I told you I suspected you might be onna them missing robots?" she asks.

Petunia looks thoughtful for a long moment. Then she brings up some pictures of Pee-Dee at the fairgrounds on her monitor. Of course it's Pee-Dee. Those are her initials, two out of three random male acquaintances call her that, and the alien is a motorcycle.
"I don't think so," she says after a long moment. "The scale's wrong. And I'm pretty sure the doctors would have noticed if I was a robot."

"It's best not to think too hard about scale, anyway," Kate answers, dismissing that argument. She looks at the picture. "Seemed to have jumped to one in particular pretty fast, though," she observes.

"Muzzle and Mr. Payne call me Pee-Dee. And they know something about me I don't." Petunia frowns at the picture of Pee-Dee on the monitor.
